Your goals in Big Farm are in line with most other games in the genre. You’ll be taking an underdeveloped area of land and slowly transforming it into a thriving farm complete with crops, animals and even buildings. With quests to guide your progress and constant upgrades with each and every level it’s easily to get sucked into managing your farm for hours on end. In terms of mechanics you’ll recognise most of the game elements if you’ve played a farm management game before. If this is your first time managing a farm though you’ll find the starter quests more than sufficient at bringing you up to speed on the process of growing, harvesting and selling your crops to expand your farms opportunities. Unlike similar games that stop there though in Big Farm players also have to build and manage various structures. These can either turn basic materials into ones that will fetch a higher price or be required to house certain animals or complete a quest for expansion. Overall the game is much closer to an economic/city simulator than straight farm management game which will appeal to people that want more control over what they build and optimising for better returns from crops. If you’ve enjoyed the simple games in this genre like FarmVille but are now seeking something with more depth that you can play by yourself without the need to rely on other players for advancement then Big Farm from Goodgame might be that opportunity.

Uptasia - Set in the 19th century Uptasia mixes the genres of hidden object games and economic simulation together. It’s an interesting mix that you probably haven’t run into before and well worth trying if you are on the hunt for a browser game that offers something different.

Players are put in charge of developing their own economic empire in Uptasia as you go from creating baked goods in your bakery to eventually expanding your production into other goods that you’ll sell to the ever growing population of the town.

Placing production buildings are the heart of the game with players having to carefully decide their next move on what to produce, what to build and what to upgrade. Elvenar - Elvenar joins the ranks of the extensive browser based strategy genre with a hybrid that leans more towards city building then most. As the game comes from InnoGames you’re guaranteed a well designed adventure even if it doesn’t try to innovate too much.

Starting your Elvenar journey players will get to choose to either develop a human or elvan settlement. Players will find that humans are medieval focused while the elves have much more magical buildings although the experience is basically mirrored outside of the cosmetic differences.

With a basic tutorial to get you started you’ll learn the foundations of any civilization. This includes things like building a home for your citizens, creating paths, basic buildings and decorations to add bonuses. You’ll also be introduced to the typical mechanics of the genre such as upgrading buildings, researching and expanding your land.

Interesting features of Elvenar include the research tree and scouting which haven’t been done to the same level in other offerings. On the research side players will often find they have as many as four different paths, this gives you much greater control over the advancement of your settlement.

This goes hand in hand with the scouting aspect of the game that requires players to actually scout the hexagonal sized spaces next to their settlement rather than the entire map being revealed. This scouting can often reveal areas of interest where players will negotiate with merchants or fight them instead to obtain resources, special relics to improve your settlement and land expansions.

The final interesting aspect of the game is in the combat where players will engage in turn based battles on grid based environments. On the face it feels like something out of a turn based strategy game but unfortunately doesn’t quite have that amount of depth. The game does however offer more than enough opportunity when you compare it to similar free strategy games in this niche.

With a great front end in terms of graphics and a decent amount of depth once you get into the game you could do a lot worse than Elvenar in the browser based MMO strategy genre. There is still plenty of waiting around for those not wanting to open their wallet though but that won’t stop you from enjoying the game for short bursts each day.
